Mazda Announces Plans for a Sleeker Miata

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Mazda MX-5 Miata is the most popular sports car in the world. And why shouldn't it be? Since its debut in 1989, it's been one of our favorite light weight convertibles, proving that some pretty amazing things can come in the smallest of packages.

In fact, since May of 2000, the Miata has held the sales record for a two-seats sports car when Mazda sold over 530,000 units. In 22 years, we've seen just two generations of Miatas, and we'll see the third-gen hit the streets in 2014. But don't expect an entirely new package from the automaker. Actually, you can expect to see a lot of the things that gave the Miata its flare when it first debuted. According to Hirotaka Kanazawa, Chief of Research and Development, "[Mazda] will return to the original. It will be lightweight and cost will be lightweight too. It will be easy to handle and fun to drive."1

You can expect the new Mazda MX-5 Miata to show notes of the new Takeri Concept styling language. A fluid body and alluring undertones will complement the 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine using SkyActiv technology. Further bolstering its fuel-sipping appeal, the new Miata will be even lighter than the current model, at just 2,200 pounds. To put that weight into perspective, the original weighed just 2,150 and the latest-gen Miata checks in at 2,410.

We're expecting the even zippier Miata will arrive at the Sentry Auto Group showroom, located at 940 Boston Turnpike Shrewsbury, MA 01545 just in time for the 2014 model year. A bit of a wait, but worth it, for sure. Until then, we invite you to stop into any of the Sentry Auto Group locations in Medford, Dorchester and Shrewsbury to view our entire selection of new and used-car models. Or, contact us via our website and let us help you find the car that suits your life.
